Hodder have been working on some cover designs for the new book. Should it be street scene Paris, Downing Street, or parliament? The action in the novel shifts between all three. Contemporary political thrillers generally go for parliament and Number 10. But THE PRIME MINISTER’S AFFAIR (published June) is set in 1929-30 when Ramsay MacDonald was Prime Minister and a Labour government was in power for only the second time. Two attempts are made to blackmail MacDonald, the first in London and the second in Paris…. so the ‘City of Light’, love and intrigue would do. The trick is finding a cover that suggests historical; political; blackmail. The cover for the reissue of an early John le Carre, A Murder of Quality, caught my eye.
And Michael Dobbs’ best selling parliamentary thriller, ‘House of Cards’, of course:
Hodder have come up with a couple of eye catching cover designs already and more possibilities are on the way. Now… can Boris Johnson be persuaded to review a proof?
