Advance hardback copies of the latest, my political thriller, The Prime Minister’s Affair, have arrived at home. It always feels like something that might never happen, what with months, sometimes years, of writing, editing, proofing: ‘… an abstraction, remaining a perpetual possibility. Only in a world of speculation.’ (To borrow from Eliot). But nope! It’s shiny, solid, 357 pages – which I reckon is not too long to be intimidating, and long enough to feel you’re getting your money’s worth. I certainly hope so.
